About

If you are looking for a fun and educational experience for the whole family in Sibiu, you might want to visit Sibiu Zoo, one of the oldest zoo in Romania. Sibiu Zoo is located in the Dumbrava Forest, about 4 km from the city center. It covers an area of 20 hectares and hosts over 300 animals from 74 species.

At the entrance to the zoo there is a secular oak tree, about 600 years old.

Sibiu Zoo was founded in 1929 by the Electric Power Plant of Sibiu, at the initiative of engineer Szekely who found some foxes while repairing the dam at Sadu. Many of the animals were donated to the zoo over the years by individuals or institutions. Some of the animals you can see at Sibiu Zoo are: lions, tigers, jaguars, Zebras, camels, llamas, deer, foxes, raccoons, and bears, monkeys, lemurs, macaques, and baboons, snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodiles and many other more.

Sibiu Zoo is not only a place to see animals but also to learn about them. The zoo has educational programs for children and adults that teach about animal behavior, conservation, and biodiversity. The zoo also organizes special events such as animal birthdays, feeding shows, and thematic workshops.

Sibiu Zoo is open every day from 9.30 to 20.00, closing time depends on the month of visit. The entrance fee is 10 lei for adults and 5 lei for children under 3 years old. You can also buy an annual pass for 30 lei for 10 visits that allows you to visit the zoo once a day and is valid for 12 months. Additionally, you can rent a boat and enjoy a relaxing ride on the lake.

Sibiu Zoo is a great destination for travelers who love animals and nature. You can spend a wonderful day with your family or friends and discover the amazing diversity of wildlife at Sibiu Zoo.

Next to the zoo is ASTRA National Museum Complex: This is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe and is dedicated to traditional Romanian village life. Visitors can explore the traditional houses, workshops, and farmsteads from different regions of Romania.
